Areas of focus

The Council of Women World Leaders will focus on three thematic areas:

(Čia bus daugiau teksto ir galimai nuotraukų, tačiau dabar dedame tiek).

Women’s Political Leadership

All around the world women are increasingly involved in the political life. They run for office at local councils, national parliaments and represent the interests of global community at international organizations. Yet out of 193 UN Member states only 24 have female heads of state or government and only 1 in 5 parliamentarians around the world are female. Unequal access to the highest levels of the decision making weakens national democratic institutions and impedes global efforts to tackle security, economic and environmental challenges. Encouraging women to take their rightful place in all levels of politics is crucial to building strong, vibrant societies and strengthening democratic governance.

Women and security

While women often disproportionally suffer the consequences of armed conflict, they also make essential contributions to achieving and maintaining international peace and security. Expanding the role of women in decision-making regarding prevention and resolution of armed conflicts is key to more effective mediation, reconstruction and reconciliation efforts and ensuring a sustainable peace.

 Women’s economic empowerment

Global financial crisis clearly demonstrated the urgency of closing the worldwide economic gender gap. Underemployment, underpayment and underrepresentation of women in local and global economies as well as top managerial and executive business positions results in continuous waste of human talent and has adverse effect on poverty eradication and development efforts. As we embark on ambitious post-2015 development agenda, the aim of achieving gender equality and ensuring equal education, social, political and economic opportunities for both men and women must remain at the center of global concerted action.
